| ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BON JOVI REUNION ROCKS Y-100 BASH ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The promised appearance of rocker-actor Jon Bon Jovi at Y-100's birthday bash has mushroomed into a full-blown reunion for the singer's eponymous band. Bon Jovi, the Jersey boys of You Give Love a Bad Name fame (that being from the 12-times platinum 1986 album, Slippery When Wet), will headline the Y-100 birthday concert on Saturday at the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise. The original lineup, in its renovated glory, is (Mr.) Bon Jovi, co-founder and keyboardist David Bryan, guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alex John Such and drummer Tico Torres. The quintet boasts a flatbed full of '80s and '90s hits, including Runaway, Livin' on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, Bad Medicine, Lay Your Hands on Me and Bed of Roses. Not a few these songs were co-written with savvy South Florida song doctor Desmond Child, and pre-screened with focus groups of probable listeners before going to market. The strategy worked quite well. Bon Jovi's metal-pop ditties and butane-lighter ballads put a headlock on radio and MTV, and helped make the band's live tours as stupendous and well-attended as the arena-slam video for You Give Love a Bad Name. The band's success paid celebrity dividends, too. Jon Bon Jovi, with his scruffy good looks, branched into movies, soundtracks and solo projects (including 1990's Young Guns II). Tabloids exclaimed over the courtship of bookended brunettes Richie Sambora and super-entertainer Cher. The couple broke up. The backlash finally came. A new breed of sober-faced groups that professed to hate fame and money became rich and famous mostly at the expense of Bon Jovi and its pajama-glam pals: Def Leppard, Cinderella, Warrant and Poison. The band dissolved following the 1995 release of These Days. Subsequent solo careers have failed to excite much public interest. But what a party it was. Bon Jovi today ranks among rock's commercial elite, with more than 30 million albums sold in North America. The reunion on Saturday is billed as a one-time-only affair. Also appearing are Swedish quartet Ace of Base (The Sign), Texas rock trio Fastball (The Way), Atlanta pop singer Jennifer Paige (Crush) and New York dance diva Rockell (Can't We Try). |

| From
Cybersleaze: "JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO HAVE SMALL HAIR... BON JOVI DECIDES TO MOUNT A COMEBACK: Get out your home perm kits, your jumbo bottles of Aquanet, and your acid wash jeans... those cowboys on a steel horse they ride are coming BACK to a mondo-dome arena near you. Yes, apparently BON JOVI are mulling over a return to the glare of the spotlight, the roar of the frenzied crowd and the plentiful supply of cheap sex from the boozed-up groupies. Yippee. The band has not shared a stage for more than 14 months, but on Saturday, they got back together for a concert promoting the 25th birthday of a Miami, Florida radio station. And apparently the guys got such a kick out of performing live again (for the rewards mentioned above) that they are planning to tour and even record again. A spokesperson for drummer TICO TORRES confirmed that fans could look forward to hearing more from the boys in Bon Jovi soon, but did not divulge specifics. Prior to the Miami concert, the group had not performed together since a 1997 benefit for BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN's Camp Basie charity in New Jersey." |
